Next Event 5th Sept

Nick has looked at the Dunes and decided not to use that map, so he is setting a score event at Pukekura Park instead. A score event is where you collect as many control points as you can in a set time (usually 1 hr). There is no sequence of controls to follow, you decide which ones you want to go to. Click on the link (under Up Coming Events at right) for details of time and locaation.

Answer to the query about what mp means in the results.

MP means the person clipped the  wrong control so they are disqualified. If you ever do this and then find the correct control just use the 'R' reserve box at the bottom of the clip card to punch the correct one. It also pays to let the course setter know what you've done.
Thanks for the query and if there are other questions send them through as a comment.

Liam’s Frenzy

Over 50 people, of which many were new families and individuals, braved the heavy showers to get out and see the details of the TOPEC map.  A good excuse to brush up the wet-look hair style!  Character building stuff. Well done to all
This was a very classy course Liam set. Even a challenge for the old hands.  Thanks Liam.

Youthtown Get 2 Go

The Taranaki region Get2Go Adventure Challenge was held on August 5th.
For those not in the know, this is an annual event which decides the finalist to compete in the national 5-day challenge on Great Barrier Island in December. It’s a Hillary Challenge type event for years 9 and 10. Very tough!
Now for those interested: 12 teams of 8 faced off with 4 activities. A water based race at Ngamotu Beach where the kayaker was blindfolded with a bucked over the head; a mountain bike relay which involved optional points for performing various skills such as negotiating a jump and riding a balance beam; several team problem solving and cooperation tasks; then a 1 ½ hour orienteering score event around the Waiwhakaiho River mouth.
It is always so good to see Patea HIgh bring a team. They staarted driving at 5 in the morning and would have got home around dinner, or just after.
The Taranaki title was won by a combined NPGH/NPBH team which included some of our OT members. Congratulations to Katie Rodenburg, Rebecca Cole, Lyneche Simpkin, Emma Bowie, Orin Burmester, Matt Furze, Tom Spencer and Hamish Sturmer.
The event was successfully put together by Don Paterson and Nick Collins with lots of help from some of our members and some senior Boys’ and Girls’ High students
