Celebrate the end of the Orienteering Taranaki calendar year with Novelty events starting at Kiwi Outdoors between 12 and 1, including BBQ if the weather is OK.
This is a novelty event, so there will be a selection of courses and you can do as many as you like for one event fee.
Event 1: Memory O. You run a course as normal. You can view a map at the start but you won't be able to take the map with you. You can come back to look at the map as often as you like. Fastest time is the winner.
Event 2: Estimate O: You run a course as normal and you have a map.
Before you start you have to estimate how long you will take. You are not allowed to take a watch ot cell-phone etc with you. The winner is the person with the most accurate estimate.
Event 3: Relay: You need a team of 3, one of who is a walker. This event would be ideal for a family or group where one member is new to orienteering. The courses are short and easy.
Event 4: A short course for beginners.

Next rogaine 28th November
Starting from the Zoo, this will be a Biathal-O with 600 points in Pukekura Park and more available in the streets surrounding the Park. As we all know there is no cycling allowed in Pukekura Park environs so if you don't want to spend the entire time on foot, bring your bike and your runners and do some of each. There will be secure storage available for your bike. Sounds like an interesting event Pete.

I hope you all enjoyed the event at Waitara. It was great
weather. Apologies to those searching for the sign at #52. The pipeline
contractor must have removed the sign to facilitate their trenching.
I added the bonus points for timed controls to make competitors
consider route choice very carefully. Most cyclists got one or both bonuses, a
number of walking or running teams got one time bonus, only one running team
got both.
1930 was full points with all bonuses - Well done Wish You Were.
Cheers, Len.

Full score to Wish You Were... and just to rub it in, they did it in 1 hour 50. Well done to the Westown Scouts!
Next week is at Waitara. We'll start a bit later to give you time to get out there and everyone will go for 2 hours (but you can return early if that's too much hard work). Len's got a few tricks up his sleeve, so well worth the trip.
