What a great turn-out, for such a wet evening!!! And whether you got all muddy in Barrett Domain or sat out the rain in a bus shelter, we hope you had fun.
Well done to Wish You Were and Navigators each coming home with a full card.  There were some great loops on the course, but they weren’t necessarily that easy to link up in the rain and mud.
Sorry to  Why are we doing this? I didn’t get a score card from you. Just leave a comment to let us know how you did.
Also worth a mention in their respective categories... Karamu, Otto & Wobbly Walkers for the walkers; Whites A, 3 Girls & Quality Time for the Mixed Runners; A tight battle between Billy & Jesse and the Lawley Boys in the Men's Runners; and all very close in the Mixed Bikers, well done One Kiwi.
Thanks for all your support over the past 6 weeks in making this a great season. We start up again on Wednesday 30th January 2013.  Look forward to seeing you all then!

9 Dec event near Wanganui

For a taste of sand dune forest orienteering, pop down to Wanganui next weekend for Red Kiwi's event in the Harakeke Forest. A great place to step up to forest map reading.

Joint the travel group (driven by Nick in the Bubbles van) for a day trip with the fun crowd. Contact them on 753 3541 to secure your seat.

Results from Sunday 2nd Dec Novelty Event

Memory Course:
Jacqui – 20:46
Mike – 21:17
John & Eli – 32:00
Joy – 41:42

Estimate Course (time difference from estimate):
Mike – 1:04
Joy – 1:37
Annie – 5:04
John & Eli – 6:55
Jacqui - 8:18
Thomas – 9:25

Congratulations to those hardy souls who ran on Sunday in the rain. The experimental formats proved to work well. I was surprised how accurate people estimated their time on the Estimate Course. The Memory course had 8 controls, and most runners were able to remember the first 4 controls and then return to the start to refresh their memory before doing the other 4 controls. I intend to run an event using the same format on the same map (different courses and start location) in March / April, hopefully better weather, and the challenge will be for runners to estimate their time more accurately than the current champ Mike, and remember better than Jacqui. Cheers, Len & Billy.

I hope everyone enjoyed my themed rogaine, especially having a go at finding Orienteering controls. Quite a few participants stayed within the confines of the park, but the 'old hands' moved out onto the streets to gain extra points. The first two teams came through to get their bikes after 45 minutes, having collected all the points in the park. Something for the rest of us to aspire to...
I apologise for the missing Monkey playing the guitar in Vogeltown school. He must've been invited to join the Cadbury gorilla to form a band, as he'd certainly left the scene sometime in the last week. Fortunately a backup dinosaur was at the same location, but running from a volcano - not playing a guitar.
I did note today the 'Red Bull drifting' sign written vehicle trailer had drifted off from no. 59 since the weekend. Perhaps the Monkey took it!
I also apologise on behalf of the club for once again running out of maps (and clue sheets). That's the second time we've had over 100 participants and that's very encouraging. We will do better next time.
Only two teams were over time, although both were within the first minute late.
Thanks for participating,
Peter W.
